Flu Season is here, and it’s more important than ever to protect your health by getting a flu shot.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, VHP is encouraging members to be part of the community effort to reduce the impact that the flu may have on our area health system. When you get a flu shot, you’re not just helping yourself but also preventing unnecessary visits to doctors, clinics and hospitals in the months ahead. Being a flu fighter makes you one of the superheroes of our community!
Who Should Get a Flu Shot? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov/flu) recommends that anyone over the age of 6 months gets the flu vaccine. It is important to get your flu vaccine early if you have a medical condition that puts you at higher risk for flu-related complications. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop full protection against the flu.
Where Can Members Get a Flu Shot? As a VHP Member, there are many ways to get your FREE flu vaccine this year!
- Call your PCP to set up an appointment for the flu shot. Some providers may allow for walk-in or drive-up access, but call ahead to confirm. Providers have worked to create safe spaces for your visit including limiting the number of patients in the office at one time, social distancing measures and the use of protective equipment.
- Get your flu shot while shopping at Walgreens, Safeway, Nob Hill/Raley’s or Costco pharmacies by showing your VHP ID card. These pharmacies are in VHP’s provider network and you won’t be charged for your flu shot.
- Find other area flu shot providers at www.vaccines.gov/search/. If it’s easier to get your flu shot from a non-network pharmacy you may be charged but you can request to be reimbursed by VHP for the cost. VHP Member Services representatives can tell you how.
